Alberta Pond Hockey

I was commissioned earlier this year to edit a video for the Alberta Pond Hockey Tournament that is held in Peace River. CFRN provided us with footage and Warner Brothers gave us permission to use the Song "Better Days" by the Goo Goo Dolls. Here is the final version of the video.

The Edmonton Photography SEO Project

A couple of days ago I wrote about three key words. Edmonton Wedding Photographers and how I need to improve my Google search rank for those three words. I am happy to say that within 48 hours, I have climbed from 131 to 73 of about 75,700 results, on Google.com.

This is a huge accomplishment and happened faster then I anticipated. I optimised the site some more and I expect to climb more before the weekend is over. At this stage, I need to be careful because SEO work is a lot like cooking. You need to add the right ingredients in order to get the results your looking for.

I also need to be careful not to damage my current position on MSN.com, which for the same three keywords, has the site http://www.edmontonphotography.com/ in the top 10. You see, Google, MSN, and Yahoo are like food critics and they all have their own preferred tastes. MSN, is the easiest of the three to please, Yahoo I don't even care about but Google, Google is the one I want to please the most without upsetting MSN. If I find the right blend of SEO, I will move up on both MSN and Google but realistically, I may end up having to drop down on MSN to do better on Google. I would rather be in the top 20 or 30 of Google then the top 10 of MSN anyways because I would get more traffic.

At this stage, using the knowledge and understanding I have today, I am confident I can help most companies achieve top 20 ranking with selected keywords. If you are interest in how I can help your website, contact me at david@dmbvp.com or call 780-233-1362.

Over the years, I have shot weddings at almost every spot imaginable in Edmonton. To be honest, most wedding parties are limited in areas to shoot. When dealing with large groups and a lot of family, you want to have a place that is easily accessible. . .read full article

Edmonton Wedding Photographers & SEO 101

Three simple words. Edmonton Wedding Photographers. The power of those three words can make or break my newest project, Edmonton Photography. The reason those three words might make or break me is because I need those three words to point to my site. The problem I am having is there is a smart company in town who has bought all kinds of domains and they all point to just married photography. I respect both their brains as well as the creative work they do but, they are making it difficult for anyone else to show up in the top 20 on Google.

I think they own every domain available. They have Edmonton wedding photographers,. Just married photography, Edmonton wedding photography .com and some blogs as well. They also have a very strong back link in place.

Now, with search engine optimizations, having key words in your url is half the battle in making it onto the first page of Google. Having strong back links is secondary. As you can see, I have my work cut out for me because Just Married Photography has a monopoly on the names and back links, but I am educated and have an understanding in how this works and I do expect to crash the top 20 for Google searches very soon. I will be using the key words Edmonton Wedding Photographers.

The reason I am posting this is to show some local Edmonton SEO work in progress, and for those interested in my services, to witness a live demonstration over time. After all, search engines is the free way to get traffic to your site. Once you have traffic, you need good original content to keep them. In order to succeed on line you need both seo and traffic, I can help you achieve results. I am able to consult with you on your current site and in some cases, help re-build an online marketing and PR plan.

For a sample of my Search Engine Optimization skills, just pay attention to how the keywords, Edmonton Wedding Photographers, does over the next couple of weeks. Currently, if you Google it using google.com , my site http://www.edmontonphotography.com/ shows up 131 - 140 of about 119,000 results. This isn't bad but if your not in the top 20, you are losing a ton of traffic and a website without traffic is useless. Anyways, lets see what happens in the next week or two.

David Mathew Bonner

Over the years, I have done a lot of things in order to run my Edmonton Based company, David Mathew Bonner Video Productions. On top of the video productions, I needed to learn how to build sites, how search engines work, how to get to the top of search engines, how to market, how to sell, how to fix computers, how to operate a ton of software, and most important, how to remain creative and passionate about art and life. I also had to learn how to juggle all those balls at once and separate my mind into three sections. The art side, the business side and the tech side. Hence, the name of the blog, a Beautiful mind. I have also been told that I resemble Russell Crow at times.
Primarily, my focus has been on video productions and I have done well for myself. My company has earned international recognition, we have won awards, and recently I have been invited to share my knowledge on Event videography at a national conference in Florida. I have done well for someone who has been self taught in all aspects of business and production.

Recently, I have reached the point where I see my other skill sets have become more valuable to the public and I have begun to offer more then just video as part of my portfolio. This has all lead to the creation of a new blog where I can share more of my work besides video production.
A current sample of some recent work is the creation of an Edmonton Photography and Edmonton Wedding Photographers Network. The purpose of the site is to help educate the Edmonton region on some of the top photographers in the city. I have asked my network to help supply non-biased information on all aspects of photography. I must admit, it has been like pulling teeth to get some of them to follow up and write the articles but once they understand the benefit, I know it will open a flood gate.

In the meantime, I have worked on the back-end of the site and focused my efforts on SEO (search engine optimization) work. I am happy to say that within a month, the site shows up on top searches for MSN. If you search a number of keywords like Edmonton Photography, Edmonton Photographer, Edmonton Wedding Photography, Edmonton Wedding Photographer, the site is in the top 20 on Msn. This is a huge accomplishment in a very short time. The site is also climbing the Google ranks and is in the top 30 in a number of other keywords as well. The Edmonton Photography Market is so flooded with websites, that this has been one of my biggest challenges to date and I am very proud of my results.

Some other work I have done this past week is personal. My son, who is seven, wanted a website for his sports. He plays football and hockey. I wanted to make an eye popping front page so I took an image I had of him and with some Photoshop work, I made it sizzle. Here are the before and afters
Another amount of time was recently devoted to non-profit groups. One group is the Alberta Pond Hockey Tournament in Peace River. CFRN TV provided me raw footage from last year to edit a promo video for the 2008 Tournament. The Peace River Pond Hockey Tournament raises awareness and monies in support of local youth programs and Special Olympics in Alberta. Warner Music also granted us permission to use the song "Better Days" by the Goo Goo dolls. Here is a close to final draft of the video.

Last but not least, I have also shot some training videos this past week for one of Canada's largest companies. Short Skits that help provide alternative training in proper procedures. The project is a part of an Advanced Adult Learning technique which focuses on both types of learning methods, Auditory and Visual, as well as written material which I wasn't a part of.

As you can see, I have been busy but in the midst of all of this, I got away for the weekend and enjoyed my cousins wedding. I did shoot some video and took some pictures but it was all 'unofficially'. Here are some snap shots I took over the weekend. PS - my daughter Sara was a flowergirl.
